Fringe films scenes for eisode 510 at night earlier this month John, Anna and Josh in scene)11/23/2012 THIS POST IS ABOUT FILMING FOR EPISODE 510 OF "FRINGE". IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ OR VIEW ANY POSSIBLE SPOILERS, PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE.
. . . Last Warning . . So, since there is no Fringe tonight because of the American Thanksgiving & I am currently caught up on maintaining the voting on the Best Of TV Awards polls for now (which Fringe is up for plenty of nominations in)...I thought I would squeeze in a little Fringe blogging for you all. As promised in my last blog post, there were some night shoot pics from Fringe shooting episode 510 I have almost nothing to tell you about what I saw, because it frankly, wasnt much. We see our heroes heading into a parking garage, then leaving in a van. Thats all there was that we as spectators could see. The only other thing that can be added to this is, the van is light blue & brown mini-van & I know for a fact it was used by them at at least 1 more shoot.... so we might be seeing this van for a bit. I apologize if some of the photos seem "bright". They have some extremely large light stands close to the area, and lots of the photos I took simply were too bright to even see, these were honestly the best of the bunch.

. . . LAST WARNING . . Last week I found Fringe out & about on their last days of filming episode 510 of the 5th and final season of the cult FOX classic "Fringe". I went downtown to catch them filming in an area I was familiar with. The crew was set up in a parkway walk thru area that connects W. Hastings St with W. Cordova street at the end of Hornby st. I best know it from being an avid Dead Like Me fan as where the lead character of that show meets her fate with a falling toilet seat. With director Jeffrey Hunt (his 4th turn at directing a Fringe episode. 414 "The End Of All Things" being his last.) at the helm, they were already in the process of filming when I first arrived on the scene. The scene I saw filmed on this day consisted of the Fringe team members, in their Observer controlled futuristic New York circa 2036 walking thru a parkway off of W.182nd street (actually W. Hastings St). At the front of the pack was Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), a few steps behind him, Olvia Dunham (Anna Torv) walking along with a little bald child (Rowan Longworth), which at the time, I expected to be a larger spoiler than it turned out to be, bringing up the rear quite a ways back was Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) and Nina Sharp (Blar Brown) in her motoroized scooter. The scene was filmed as 1 continuous portion 1st, then they filmed seperate portions, 1st on Walters, then on Olivia & the bald childs, then finally focussing on Peter & Nina. All around the fugitives, loyalists wandered thru the parkway, while in the background an Observer poster graced a post. A wall of missing people & Resistance posters was off to the side of where they were filming. The only known thing of the scene really was, Walter stops at a Waffle Stick stand to grab 1 of these treats. Funny enough, you dont actually see him bite into 1 of these during filming....yet, I saw a crew member eating one of them later on...so they must have been edible (and btw - looked delcious). The scene didnt explain much. No dialogue was easily heard. At the time, the big scoop everyone took from this was the unknown boy. Was he an Observer? Was he someone else? I asked a crew member later that evening at a different shoot what the childs name was so I would properly credit him when I wrote this (didnt want another Abagayle Hardwick situation where I didnt know till the episode aired), he told me "Rowan Longworth" & I assumed that would be the 1st anyone would know if the child actors name. Then Fringe scooped me. Rowan made his debut in episode 5x06 and soon, everyone had the name. Little did we all know, that later the same week we would first see the young up & coming star taking on the role that was seemingly 1st introduced in episode 1X15 "Inner Child"(previously played by Spencer List). by the fact we see these photos of ep 10 filming (and I can confirm he is also been doing ep 11 scenes) that Rowan's character will be vital to the Fringe teams plan to beat the Observers. Simply credited in the episode as "Child Observer" the questions on whether Rowan is playing a Young September have filled many discussion boards. I am going to go out on a hunch and say it isnt. My feeling is, the physical differences between Rowan and Michael Cerveris (the cleft chin being most notable) would be a fairly notable oversight for the fringe casting team if this was the case.... of course, perhaps I am wrong? Afterall, who is to say Observers genetics are the same as you & I. Below - photos of the day shoot, I will have some of the evening shoot later on starring John, Josh & Anna. As I stated in my last blog post, I caught up to Fringe quite afew times in late September.
A few days after catching them twice in a few days for ep 506, I caught them again only a few days later for 507. On set this particular day was Anna Torv (Olivia Dunham), John Noble (Dr. Walter Bishop), Jasika Nicole (Astrid Farnsworth) & the rarely seen Blair Brown (Nina Sharp). This was the 1st time I had seen Blair Brown in over a year anywhere, and only the 2nd time EVER (the other being in 2009) that I had seen her on a Fringe set. The scenes seem to consist of the now silver haired Nina of 2036 rolling down a dock in her scooter, the landscape is covered in Observer posters hanging from lamp posts as Astrid, Walter & Olivia notice. Olivia goes over to her & chats with her, while the other 2 stay back. A little later they did other scenes where Nina was going onto a walkway in her scooter. After the set of scenes that the 4 of them wrapped, I was happy to be able to get autographs from three of the 4, especially Blair, who like I said, I rarely see. The only denial was from Jasika Nicole, who in the last year has gone from amazingly pleasant to cocky & borderline rude. In the span of a minute, she denied 3 different people, 2 of which were people she was meeting for the 1st time. In the last year, this has been her usual response when asked for autographs "not today", the 1 and only time I DID see her sign this year was a day where a bunch of out of town fans were at the set during a Fringe Fan event that was going on here. Every other time, in the last year, she has gone out of her way to ignore, or deny, requests. She is going to be in for a shock when the show finally ends, and her ability to land a new job doesnt happen immediately. Guess she thinks shes made it now & doesnt have to sign, which is odd, as her more experienced cast mates are all great with interacting with fans. There hasnt been a lot of Blair this season so far, as the story has focused mostly on the teams search for Walters plan to defeat the Observers. Just like Philip Broyles, who we only recently saw finally meet up with the team, Nina has been mostly relegated to guest star status this year. Here are the photos from this days shoot, back in September. THIS BLOG CONTAINS DESCRIPTIONS & PHOTOS FOR SCENES FILMED FOR EPISODE 506 OF FRINGE. . . . Final Warning . . Back in September I caught Fringe out & about a few times late in the month. My 1st such finding I caught them in the gastown area filming inside a building. On set that day, I saw John Noble, Jasika Nicole, Joshua Jackson, Anna Torv & guest star Zak Santiago. Unfortunately, the only shots from this set are of the cast outside the building during breaks. At the time, I did not know what episode it was for, but finding the set 4 days later, I now know, it was for 506. A few days later the Fringe crew was in the West End of the downtown core on Davie Street. The location happened to be just around the corner from the spot that I last season broke the news of Joshua Jackson 1st being at set. This time, the mad scientist extraordinairre was front & centre of the scenes being shot, as I found Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) doing scenes where he seems to be walking thru NYC doing, who knows what. 1st scene had him walking by an area where homeless people seemed to be camping with a fire in a garbage tin going to keep them warm. A bit later I caught another scene where Walter is walking along videotaping himself. He starts the scene off wiping off his lips after eating something (maybe a doughnut?) and then proceeds to walk along talking into the camera, as if dictating a message to someone thru a video. These scenes were definitely for episode 506 "Through The Looking Glass and What Walter Found There". Below are photos from both sets. The 1st batch from the latter shoot, the 2nd batch from the earlier shoot. Fringe was out at UBC back in Mid-August to film scnes for season 5. It was the 2nd time in about 4 days I had come across their set.
1st thing I noticed was the Observer posters on the clock tower. As I got closer I saw a police state looking check point guarded building which is believed to be Harvard University as I was told by those there. I never actually saw any filming with cast that day, but I did run into Anna Torv (Olivia), John Noble (Walter & Jasika Nicole (Astro..err..Astrid) after their days were wrapped. On set, I saw Georgina Haig (Etta) & Joshua Jackson (Peter) arrive to a later shoot. Georgina and Joshua both had markings under their eyes like those of loyalists, Joshua was even dressed up as 1 of The Observers loyalist soldiers. Tonight, season 5, episode 2 airs on FOX. Check your local listings for the time in your area. THIS BLOG POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR FRINGE EPISODE 501. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE OR READ ABOUT ANY POSSIBLE SPOILERS....DO NOT CONTINUE. , , , Last Warning . . So back in July, the production for the 5th & final season of Fringe started. Their first location of the season was in the very popular Stanley Park as I reported in my earlier blog post http://canadagraphs.weebly.com/7/post/2012/07/fringe-shoots-some-polivia-scenes-for-season-5-episode-1-on-1st-day-of-filming.html By the time I got to set they were working on a scene involving Anna Torv (Olivia Dunham), Joshua Jackson (Peter Bishop) & "Abigail" (young Etta, I have yet to confirm if the name I heard is correct as no listing of her seems to be anywhere yet - NOTE Abagail Hardwick is her name) doing a scene where Peter sees Observers coming across the field & he yells out to Etta to come to him. Obviously, you have seen the far better camera work & dramatically edited version in the Fringe trailers put out by FOX so far to promote the season. But I took 1 shot as well. Below is that video. I apologize if you dont like my camera work. I'm not afterall, a professional cameraman or using a real video camera. ** recommended viewing - right click & pick "TOGGLE FULL SCREEN" MODE to see entire video frame ** ** YOU MAY OF COURSE POST A LINK TO THIS POST ON YOUR SITE/BLOG. I WILL POST IT ON YOUTUBE NEXT WEEK WHEN TIME PERMITS** Fringe videos from season 2 - Lance Reddick and Anna Torv, and Josh Jackson with Anna Torv.8/19/2012 Recently, going thru old files on my external hard drive, I found a series of short videos I shot back in Season 2 of FRINGE. The scenes in these videos are for episode 210 "Grey Matters". The first 2 videos are of Lance Reddick & Anna Torv (Philip Broyles & Anna Torv) doing a scene in Victory Square. The second set of videos is from scenes where Joshua Jackson & Anna Torv (Peter Bishop & Olivia Dunham) race to a location looking for Walter. |
